Description
Ferrous sulfate is an inorganic substance, the chemical formula is FeSOs, the appearance is white powder without odor. Its crystalline hydrate is heptahydrate at normal temperature, commonly known as "green alum", light green crystal, which is weathered in dry air and oxidized to brown on the surface of the basic ferric sulfate in humid air, becoming tetrahydrate at 56.6 °C and monohydrate at 65°C. Ferrous sulfate is soluble in water and almost insoluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution oxidizes slowly in air when it is cold, and oxidizes faster when it is hot. Adding alkali or exposure to light can accelerate its oxidation. The relative density (d15) is 1.897. It's stimulating. Ferrous sulfate can be used as chromatographic reagent and spot analysis for the determination of platinum, selenium, nitrite and nitrate. Ferrous sulfate can also be used as a reducing agent, the manufacture of ferrite, water purification, polymerization catalyst, photographic plate making, etc.
Main use
CITY/INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENT
It is used for the flocculation purification of water, as well as the removal of phosphate from municipal and industrial sewage to prevent the eutrophication of water bodies.
COLORANT/REDUCING AGENT
Used in the production of iron tannate ink and other inks. Mordant for wood dyeing also contains ferrous sulfate. It is also used to stain concrete a yellow rust color. Woodworkers use ferrous sulfate to tint maple with silver, Used as a reducing agent, mainly reducing chromate in cement.
